SG, I think you have got your head screwed on right - unfortunatley most JW's don't.
I can't believe how happy, free and alive I feel after leaving the cult after spending my whole life in it. When you are a member it is very difficult to reason, but gradually doubts build up. There may be hope for your wife eventually, but there seem to be hope for your own happiness on the horizon!
Hang on in there and do what you think is right - I'm certainly delighted that I am not part of that relgion anymore.
My thoughts are with you.

1 1/2 stars out of 4???
Unfortunatley it seems that a lot of Americans don't get the English humour (sorry, humor!).
It did take the Mick out of America that's true, but he could have done the same with Britain too. If you haven't watched his TV show regularly then maybe you wouldn't 'get it' so easily. I've loved Borat for years and if you don't take the film seriously it is very very funny. -

Welcome Imspink.
I see my wife (Bubble) has already welcomed you. You will find a lot of friends here, many people just like you who are new to this forum.
There are many different views on here, feel free to add yours!
I have found this site very welcoming and very healthy for my development as a human being!
I have also met and made some great friends when some of us met up for a curry in Manchester recently.
All the best

Jehovahs Witnesses on The Heaven and Earth Show BBC1

I thought that maybe she wasn't baptised yet and that she was in the process of making her mind up.
Having said that, it's very odd for a 16 year old Witness NOT to be baptised eh?
I thought the whole thing was a bit strange too - maybe they had been schooled by the elders etc on what to say, they refused to say what they actually would do if it was a life and death situation. I would like to see them asked the question as to what would be the repercussions if they had a blood transfusion to save their lives - would that count as disassociating oneself from Jehovahs loving organisation? -

I just watched the Heaven and Earth show on BBC1.
There was a JW mum and her now 16 year old daughter on the programme. When the girl was 15 she needed a life saving operation which apparently required blood. The family sought and found a surgeon who would operate without blood.
The mother and daughter answered Gloria Hunnifords questions very well, but two things surprised me: firstly the mother said that even though JW's would not accept blood tranfusions, they WOULD ALLOW their own blood to be stored for future use - is that a new view?
Secondly, the daughter who was brought up a Witness said that even though she agreed with the descision to not have blood, she now is not an active JW - but that when she questions things she keeps coming back to the conclusion that the Witnesses have the 'truth'.
Did anybody else see the programme and do you have any other comments to make?
By the way, the full documentary is on BBC1 on Wednesday, 10.40pm on a programme called One Life.

I've just watched a firework display put on by Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex (full of class me!) for free as I can see it from the comfort of my house.
I remember when I was very little (or should I say when I was very young, as anyone who knows me, knows that I am still little!), being driven by my mum and dad to the book study on bonfire night and I loved looking out of the car window at the fireworks - only for it to be cut short by our arrival at the meeting.
I also remember my mum reading about some kids that had been burnt by fireworks that if they had followed Jehovahs organisation they would not have been involved in celebrating anything like bonfire night so they woouldn't have got injured. She said can't you see what a protection it is being a Witness.
Unbelievable now. -

I've just been to see the movie - it was great!!!!
The whole audience was in raptures!
It does show the Americans up a bit - but I hope they take it in the way it was intended.
When he stays at the jews house is hilarious - remember he is jewish himself!
Also the pentecostal church meeting is real fun too, and the dinner party and the... oh just go and watch it! -

Borat is the best creation from Sacha Baron Cohen - his anti Semitic humour is great, especially when you consider he is obviously Jewish.
His sketches are anti-anti-Semitic.
Ali G was very good, Bruno is developing nicely and apparently a film about that character is in the offing, but in all his TV shows it was Borat acting stupid which always made me laugh.
I'm hoping to see the film tonight - can't wait! -

Are You 'Dreaming of a White Christmas' yet?
by AK - Jeff inoh, come on - somebody had to do this thread!
my stereo is rending xmas music as i type this - a wonderful celtic version of "the christmas song".
snow is flying outside my window - and i am getting in the xmas mood already.
-

I bet the music sounds great on a sax.
My wife sometimes drops hints as to what she would like, but being a man I either don't pick up on it, totally forget it or just don't listen in the first place!
Best to ask outright I suppose but then the surprise has gone. -

Dreaming of it yes, but that is all it remains here in the balmy Sout East of England - we hardly ever get snow.
Scotland and the North could be different though.
I am just beginning to enyoy Xmas time now, it was difficult when I first left the Wittos as it felt strange - now it's good fun but only having a couple of years experience of buying presents, I find it very hard trying to work out what I should but whom and how much?!
